There is no better feeling than cuddling up with your favorite chunky knit blanket and a bowl of popcorn and watching a movie in the middle of fall. That cozy feeling is amplified when throwing on a scary movie. Knowing this, we asked a few of the Brew Crew members for their favorite Halloween movie. We received a wide variety of answers ranging from terrifying to Disney Channel classics that the whole family can enjoy.  

The Brew Crew’s Favorite Halloween Movies:

Coraline

The Coraline resurgence is happening, and we are SO here for it! With this year being the 15th anniversary of the movie, it’s an absolute must watch this spooky season and is perfect to watch with the whole family! While kids may not pick up on the horror aspects of this movie, adults watching certainly will. Many claim this is one of those unique scary movies that tends to scare adults more than children.  

  

Halloweentown

You can’t forget the Disney Channel hit classic, Halloweentown. When I say this movie changed my life, I truly mean it. The cast includes Debbie Reynolds… need I say more? Plus, the main characters are actually married in real life now (cue the happy tears). If you’ve never seen Halloweentown, you are seriously missing out! 

  

Nightmare Before Christmas

Speaking of Halloweentown, let’s talk about the pumpkin king. The debate has been going for years, but we’re here to settle it: The Nightmare Before Christmas is a Halloween movie NOT a Christmas movie. Here’s why: the movie is set in Halloweentown, not Christmastown. Plus, the whole aesthetic of the movie is dark and moody whereas if it were a Christmas movie, it would be far more colorful and joyful. In our opinion, this is a Halloween movie through and through, but if you don't agree, we've got some more movies you can check out.  

  

Corpse Bride

Since we’re bringing up Tim Burton, let’s talk about another one of his Claymation masterpieces, Corpse Bride. Outside of the love story taking place, the movie is truly beautiful to just watch. More than that, it’s one the whole family can enjoy together! 
 

IT

The "King" of horror, Stephen King, also wrote the classic, It, that follows a group of seven uncool kids known as “The Losers Club” who embark on a journey to take down the shape-shifting monster that preys on children in their town of Derry, Maine. It is one of those movies that has you questioning everything after it’s finished. Try out “The Losers Club” Latte while you watch this horror masterpiece. 

 

Sweeney Todd

If you’re anything like me, a movie is not worth watching if there’s not a song and dance break somewhere within it. This Tim Burton adaptation of the Stephen Sondheim musical, Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, is so worth the watch. The movie is quite gory and features some difficult to watch moments, so keep that in mind while putting it on! 

Sleepy Hollow

Can you tell we love Tim Burton and everything that he produces? Sleepy Hollow follows the journey of Ichabod Crane and his investigation of three mysterious beheadings in the town of Sleepy Hollow. Not only is this adaptation of the movie one of the best, but we are absolutely here for the female empowerment featured in this movie. As the tagline says, “Heads will roll.” 

 

Hocus Pocus

Moving on from Tim Burton, Hocus Pocus is one of those movies that everyone has to watch at least once in their life. This quintessential Halloween classic is one that will stick with you forever (but in a good way). Get ready to fall in love with this bewitching film all over again (or for the first time). 

 

Dark Shadows

If you’re looking for something on the more light-hearted side, Dark Shadows is the perfect option for you. The movie follows the rich and powerful vampire, Barnabas, and his journey through handling his dysfunctional family remnants after waking from being buried alive for two centuries. This movie is sure to bring all the laughs and won't have you sleeping with a nightlight on. 

 

 

The Shining

Now we get into the really scary stuff. The Shining is the horror movie everyone watches during the Halloween season, and there’s a reason why. Set in the 1970s, the movie follows the Torrance family and the father, Jack’s, descent into madness. As he falls into madness/possession by the hotel, the family must get away.  Watch this movie if you’re in for a fright, and sip on one of our “Come & Play” Lattes to really tie it all together.  

 

 

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone

Okay, okay, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone may not be a classic Halloween movie, or even a Halloween movie at all for that matter, but it’s one we needed to include in this list. There is no movie that quite captures the feeling of Halloween/Fall better than the very first Harry Potter. 

 

Scream

*ring ring ring* The cult classic, Scream, is one of those movies that may not be the most terrifying but is quintessential for those who love horror. The movie follows the masked killer, Ghostface, and his stalking of teenage girl, Sidney Prescott. The movie has turned into an iconic, ongoing series. We are currently on movie 6 with rumors of a seventh. Stop by and try out the “Cookies and Scream” Latte during this season to celebrate the classic movie. 

 

Curl up on the couch and throw on one of these classic Halloween movies to get in the spooky spirit this year.
