Origin Story:
As our first other origin offering from Rwanda, this coffee went beyond its phenomenal taste. Solely produced and processed by women, this single origin resonated with our own story at Alma! Being women owned, we know how under represented women in the coffee industry are and having the ability to support women producers in other parts of the world meant the world to us.
We partnered with Umuko Coffee to add this offering to our coffee lineup. With decades of experience in growing and processing coffee in Rwanda, there were so many synergies between our own story and that of Umuko! Your support in purchasing this coffee helps continue Umuko's mission of putting more money in the hands of Rwandan women which in turn directly leads to eradication of malnutrition, illiteracy, and encouraging education.
Roast Story:
We first sampled this coffee in November of 2022! Being in the middle of our busy season, it was a rare event indeed. This season is usually so busy for us that we don't have much time to consider new coffees for our lineup. Over our years roasting, we have come across many Rwandan coffees and none had ever stood out. This one was different! It stood out on the cupping table immediately with its summery juicy notes of Raspberry, Lemon, and Brisk Iced Tea. Very refreshing considering we were in the middle of the cold, fast paced season. Although the coffee spoke for itself, after hearing more about the story behind the coffee, we knew we had found our very first Rwandan coffee!
In typical Alma fashion, we wanted to preserve the natural terroir of this single origin and landed on a light-medium roast for this coffee. Our goal in crafting this roast was to bring a little taste of Spring/Summer into the tail end of our 2023 winter with every single sip.
