Origin Story:
This Ethiopian coffee offering is very near and dear to our hearts here at Alma: it is the first coffee we have ever offered sourced from outside of Honduras. Branching out of our motherland to a new origin was bittersweet, and we prolonged introducing other origins for a while because we want to ensure all coffee offerings stay aligned with our 3 key pillars—improving lives, sustainable practices, and extraordinary coffee.
With the help of Keffa Coffee, we came across this particular Ethiopian coffee and it truly blew us away in both its taste and farming mission. According to Keffa Coffee, their top priority is supporting and sustaining the people behind the beans by working directly with origin partners who pay higher than average wages and treat their employees fairly. Samuel, Keffa’s owner, was born and raised in Ethiopia and has even competed professionally in coffee!
Ethiopia Kochere comes from the village of Kochere, just a few kilometers south of the legendary town of Yigacheffe. This region is legendary for producing some of the country’s finest coffees, and that couldn’t be truer when it comes to this particular washed coffee offering basking in incredibly natural floral notes of lavender, green tea, and sour orange.
Roast Story:
Since this was our first “other origin” coffee, we wanted to ensure the roast profile honored the complexity of its farming origin. Ethiopia is well known for its multi-faceted coffees with many different tasting notes. This coffee is no exception, and the light roast profile we curated for it truly brings out every natural flavor. We recommend checking out this coffee if you’re interested in tasting the origin of coffee itself, or for a different take on our roasting process you won’t find in our Honduran offerings!
